Most of these songs started as voice notes recorded at one in the morning, when the line finally arrived and there was nobody awake to play it to.

For a long time that is where they stayed. Making a song is not the hard part. Finishing one is. There is always a better take, a cleaner mix, a reason to wait — and a folder full of things that were nearly ready when you stopped believing in them.

So we picked a date and then another one fifteen days after that, and we have not let ourselves off since. The deadline is the whole method. It is why there are ten songs out instead of ten drafts, and why there is a slate rather than a wish.

What we write about is small on purpose. A father telling his daughter everything is fine. Two cups of coffee. A shirt that still holds a crease. Rain on a city that only softens when it rains. Nobody needs another song about being enormous.

If any of it lands, the songs are all here — including the four that are finished but not out yet. Play them loud, or at one in the morning. Either works.
